The advantages of Nature’s Electric neiLite® LED Tube Lighting

LED tube lighting has a number of advantages when considering replacement of fluorescent tube lighting, but there are a number of factors that should be considered when deciding the best lighting fit for a given application.

Like fluorescent tube bulbs, LED tubes are available in a variety of sizes and formats. Popular lengths are 4' and 8'. Many LED tubes are sold as T8, which describes a slightly smaller diameter tube than typical T12 fluorescents, but either diameter works with standard fluorescent fixture connectors. When selecting LED tubes, it is important to note whether they are described as replacements or ballast compatible. Ballast compatible LED tubes, for example the universal neiLite® 4' LED ballast compatible bulb at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E5K1Y38 can be plugged directly into compatible ballast wired fluorescent fixtures. Replacement LED tubes, for example the neiLite® 4' LED replacement bulb at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DY2N19S, typically require modest rewiring of the fixture to bypass the ballast, and run line power (commonly 120 VAC) directly to the connections. Rewiring is usually not difficult, but be sure to consult the manufacturer’s wiring instructions. A few universal bulbs, such as the 4' neiLite® model above, can be used in any power configuration - with 120 VAC, magnetic, or electronic ballasts.

While fluorescent and LED tube are shaped similarly, LED tubes typically have a solid back, mounted towards the fixture, and emit LED light downward through a transparent or diffuse cover, providing light over 180 degrees instead of a full 360. Since most of the light directed upwards by fluorescent bulbs is wasteful, LED tubes with lower lumen ratings often provide brighter lighting than a higher listed fluorescent, by directing the light to where it is needed. Perceived brightness can also be affected by the color temperature of an LED bulb. High color temperature values, such as the 6000-6500K CCT provided by the 8' neiLite® replacement tube at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DY8IAH0 provide a bluer, more intense light, that provides crisp detail for applications such as shops, warehouses, retail space, and home kitchens and baths. Lower value alternatives provide a more yellow, warm light, that may be more desirable for relaxed home living areas.

LED tubes have a number of advantages over fluorescents. They use much less power to provide the same level of lighting, and do not generate uncomfortable waste heat. Like most bulbs, watt ratings on LED tubes vary, and while wattage does not directly specify light level, higher wattage LED bulbs, such as the 22W neiLite 4' LED replacement tube http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DY2N19S, are typically brighter than their counterparts. Finally, the lighting quality can be affected by the construction features of the LED tube. LED tubes such as the neiLite examples mentioned above use a diffuser cover which helps scatter the bulb light to fill the room. Clear tube covers can make light too directional, making the individual LEDs visible, and result in shadowed areas.

Whatever your application, there is likely a readily available LED tube light that can replace existing fluorescent lighting at lower operating cost and using less energy, often

Most people concentrate on decor when thinking about making a house feel like a home. However, flooring also plays a major part in the ambiance, look, and feel of a room. Depending on what type of family you have, your budget, and how much traffic your floor sees will determine what types of flooring are best for your home. Whether you are redecorating your home or choosing the flooring for a new home, these tips can help you pick out a functional flooring that also looks great.

Lifestyle The most important factor to consider when choosing a type of flooring is how your family live and use the room the flooring will be in. If you have heavy traffic from kids or pets, or you are very active, stay away from plush carpet. Areas with heavy traffic need more resilient flooring, like vinyl, wood, or ceramic tile. If you have minimal traffic in your home, and you like having a soft carpet under your feet, carpeting or wood flooring with large area rugs are a great choice. There are also many options for flooring types that fall between resilient flooring and carpet. Where these materials will be placed will also play a role in your choice.

Location Flooring located in your foyer or entry should not be stylish and noticeable, but should also be durable enough to handle the elements. If your entryway sees a lot of rain, mud, or snow, you should pick a more durable flooring like tile, wood, or slate. You should also place an entry mat just outside the door so that you and your guests can remove excess moisture before you enter the home. This will not only help your floor last longer, it keeps your floors cleaner as well! Flooring for bedrooms or children's playrooms should be comfortable to walk on with bare feet. Flooring used in bathrooms, laundry and utility rooms need to be water resistant. Dublin flooring store store Conklin Bros advise that you avoid using laminate or hardwood flooring in areas that see a lot of moisture, as they can warp and become damaged.

Cost Flooring is usually marked as a price per square foot. This can quickly add up. Flooring materials come with a quality "grade." Carpet made of synthetic materials is more affordable than Berber, which contains both small and large tufts of pile. The more plush or durable a flooring is, the more you can expect to pay for it. When picking out a carpet, don't forget that you will need to also purchase a carpet pad to place beneath it. This pad makes stepping on the carpet more comfortable and helps the carpet to last longer. Slate, marble, and ceramic tile are more expensive to buy than carpet. Tile is easy to maintain and lasts a long time unless it gets cracked. Laminate and wood flooring has dropped in price in recent years as new products enter an already flooded market.

Eco-Friendly Are you looking for a flooring type that looks great but is also good for the environment? Some great flooring choices include bamboo wood, cork, and recycled glass tile. Each is quite unique. Cork flooring absorbs sound well, but don't use it if you wear high heels often. Is your home industrial or a loft style? You can also go with simple exposed or stained concrete as an environmentally friendly choice.

As you look over a property that you intend to buy, it is important to spend a significant amount of time checking everything out. A quick, thirty minute visit is simply not sufficient, but this is precisely what many buyers do. Take your time and pay attention to a few important factors before signing on the dotted line.

  1. Is the structure solid?

The need for a surveyor depends on your evaluation of the building, although it is always a good idea to bring someone in to be sure. As you walk around, keep an eye out for large cracks. Small cracks are normal. In particular, pay attention to the areas around bay windows and the places where extensions meet. It is common to see cracks in these areas if the house has an underlying issue. If you are concerned about something you see, bring in a surveyor to quell any doubts that you might have. In addition, if the walls are bowing, have a structural engineer come out to the property.

  1. Is damp present?

If there is damp, you will typically notice a moldy smell. There may also be water marks on the ceilings or walls. As a result, you need to examine these areas closely. In addition, it is okay to be suspicious if you notice a fresh paint job; the owners may be trying to hide an issue with damp.

  1. How is the house positioned?

If there is not much sun out on the day that you visit the home, you may have trouble determining if it faces to the south or the north. However, this is important because you want your home to be bright and warm instead of in the dark all the time. Kay-grant.com who provide Scottsdale homes for sale suggest therefore, bring a compass or use a phone app to figure out which way your potential new home is facing.

  1. Do you have storage space?

Many people forget about storage space until after they move in, but it could very well determine your long term satisfaction with a property. Is there space to store seasonal items that you are not currently using? Do you have a closet to put towels or cleaning supplies? Is there an area where you can put in shelves?

  1. Has staging influenced your decision to buy?

Proper staging is an important strategy for owners. You can put items like mirrors in a space to make it look better or bigger. Be careful when evaluating a property and make sure you are basing your decision to buy on the home itself.

  1. What size are the rooms?

Pay attention to the dimensions of the rooms, not how they look during your walk through. It is not unusual for owners to select small furniture for a space to make it appear big.

  1. Is the roof new?

It costs a lot of money to put on a new roof. A roof can be expected to last about 15 to 20 years, which is not a very long time. In addition, if the roof is flat, determine what sealer was used. A membrane is preferable to gravel and asphalt.

  1. What do the windows look like?

The exterior appearance of the windows can tell you a lot about how the house has been maintained. If the windows are in good condition, the rest of the house may be as well. Check to see if the window frames are rotten or if condensation has built up between the window panes. Both of these are signs of an issue.

  1. Is the plumbing acceptable?

Turn on the taps and see if the water pressure is acceptable. Find out if the pipes are insulated and make sure that lead is not involved. Find out the age of the boiler and check out the radiators. Also, where is the hot water tank? If there is one on the roof, it is probably dated.

  1. How are the power points?

You want good wiring in your home. You also don't want to pay to have a home rewired. Take a look at the fuse board and see what condition it is in. It may clue you in to the condition of the wiring overall.

The housing market in Scotland offers a veritable feast of differing opportunities in terms of home ownership. Resale properties, such as flats and small holdings, through to all manner of new builds are available throughout the country.

These provide the purchaser with a multitude of options to satisfy their requirements. In terms of acquisition, new build properties have become a popular choice for many. However, as with any form of building work, there can be issues which can become apparent after taking possession of a new home. This is why many are now employing the services of suitably qualified surveyors to conduct what is known as a "Snagging survey."

What is a snagging survey?

A snagging survey is a form of house survey. It relates to new build properties and is aimed at picking up all the minor and occasionally major elements of a new build that require fixing prior to the purchaser taking possession of the property. These can include elements such as a door that doesn't quite close properly, other elements in the house that are not functioning the way you would expect, through to external elements of the property. The reality is that the majority of issues picked up during a snagging survey are usually cosmetic and can be repaired reasonably quickly by the builder. However that is not always the case and more serious issues can sometimes be found which require immediate attention.

When do you have a snagging survey conducted?

Typically the most opportune time to have a snagging survey is between the completion of the build and the legal completion date. This provides the builder the opportunity to correct the relevant issues highlighted in the snagging list. In saying that, it is also possible to conduct the snagging survey within the first couple of years of ownership, and the developer usually must repair the elements described in the report.

DIY or professional Snagging survey?

Whilst it is possible in some respects to conduct your own snagging survey, the reasons that most do not, is that a professional surveyor will be able to highlight and pick up elements that you may well miss. This would no doubt have repercussions at a later date. Also the professional surveyor will usually report their findings direct to the developer which increases the chances of getting them fixed much quicker.

What does a snagging survey cost?

When purchasing a new build property, the inherent cost of the property and related legal costs can be substantial. The reality is that in real terms a snagging survey will cost anywhere between £300 to £600. This is a small sum to highlight any potential problems that can be rectified at the appropriate time by the developer at no cost to yourself. Taking into account that any potential problems can be found which could impact the value of the property at a later date, or worse still, require expenditure out of your own pocket to put right, it makes sense to most people to conduct a snagging survey.

Log homes have been around for centuries, however in recent years interest in them has increased and for good reason. There are a number of benefit for choosing a log structure for your home or garden room – see below:

1) Trees are renewable

Due to the fact that trees are renewable, log and timber come with a solid green pedigree. When you use solid logs, your home will be able to effectively take carbon found in those logs out of the environmental circulation over the entire life of the home.

Besides, some of the log and timber home producers get their products from standing dead timber caused by pesky insects or buy logs from those forests certified as sustainable. There are builders who build log and timber homes to green building standards as well.

2) Durable

Do you have a know it all in the neighborhood who thinks that his or her brick home is durable? Then tell him that log timber homes have been in use in Europe for more than 800 years. Additionally, it is reported that one church in Russia made from logs is more than 1,700 years young.

3) Withstand hostile weather conditions

There have been many stories of log and timber homes withstanding the worst weather conditions like in 2005 when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita happened.

Hurricane's Rita winds felled a huge oak tree which then fell on the roof of the home of Mr. Menlo Klingman and his wife Mickey. The home found in Eastern Texas measured 1,700 sq ft and made from Satterwhite logs and timber.

The solid log walls used to construct the home were able to withstand the weight of the tree hence preventing more damage. Mickey said that she is sure that the log and timber home is what saved their lives.

4) Fit the land

According to loghouse.ie, because of the fact that this organic building material is natural, the structures will blend into the topography. The best things about log homes is that they blend well with the landscape instead of appearing awkward because they have been imposed on the landscape.

5) Fast framing

The shell of a home using pre-drilled and pre-cut log system or a home that is handcrafted is faster compared to conventional stick framing. This will help reduce the chances of damages caused by the weather or mold and mildew issues.

With the right crew and building system, it can be weather tight within as less as two weeks for an average home. Conventional construction, on the other hand, is exposed to these elements for a longer period of time leading to mold issues within the framing of your home. This can thrive unnoticed for many years.

6) Warmth of wood

The wood is always warm to touch opposed to the ever chilly sheetrock. This is due to the fact that wood has something known as thermal mass which keeps the inside temperatures at home comfortable in all seasons. Therefore log walls can easily collect and store energy and later radiate it back into your home.

7) Super energy efficient

To have a super energy efficient home, you need to seal your home properly. This involves sealing between the foundation and the first course of logs between log-to-log connections and the point where the roof system meets the log wall.

Some builders usually build homes made of log and timber to adhere to the standards of DOE's "Energy Star”. This is why the house will be more efficient by 30% than what building codes require. Doing this will help you save serious coins over the life of the home.

There are some things that will never go out of style: the colour black, neutral palettes, rustic wood, light spacious rooms - and although their formation and style can differ slightly, they are generally our basic building foundations for interior design. But as seasons come and go, the trends change to fit in with our cultural and social movements - inevitably altering our tastes and choices when it comes to decorating to our aesthetic preferences. So here is a little peep at some of the trends you’ll be expecting to see during the coming autumn months…

  1. Fifty Shades of…

You guessed it! Grey is the colour of the season for your interior - and it’s coming in all waves of shades; soft, textured, dark, light, metallic… They are the colours of our soon-to-be winter mornings. Consider layering smoky hues with nearly-black accents to create definition in a room - this palette works especially well in a living or lounge area where you want to create comfort with textured pillows and throws. Add an air of affluence with silver decorative ornaments such as candles, trays, photo frames, mirrors, coasters and table runners.

  1. Midnight Blues

If you’re more interested in creating an artsy-looking, affluent interior space, then opt for this season’s statement shade of midnight blue. Use it sparingly in your accessories; pillows, soft furnishings, decorative ornaments etc. or go for the full ‘wow’ factor and use it on your walls! Midnight blue looks spectacular with metallic accessories, particularly gold, to create a celestial or art-deco aesthetic.

  1. Knitted Soft Furnishings

If you’re a wiz with a knitting needle, now is your time to shine! Knits are not only good for throwing on your back to keep you warm and comfy, but they make beautifully cosy furnishings for in your home. Ideal for the lounge area or bedroom, thick cable-knitted pillows covers and blankets in neutral shades keep your environment looking homely and fresh. A perfect setting for this lovely trend would be covering rustic bed frames in layers of blush pink and cream cable knit blankets - imagine coming home from work and diving into that!

  1. Folk

Folk prints have been plentiful over our festival season, but the colourful floral patterns and embroidery is here to stay through out our winter - but this time with more of a Nordic influence. Sat upon black and navy backdrops rather than whites and creams, the large folk print takes on darker shades for our winter party season. Though there’s nothing wrong with keeping the blue and white folk prints flowing through your home to lighten it up a bit! After all, we’re still in September so there’s no rush to be dulling your rooms just yet.

  1. Handmade

Self taught DIY is still a massive thing for home interiors - if you have a skill set whether it be carpentry, stitching, painting or if you just have a knack for anything creative, then have a go at doing it yourself! The internet is swarming with tutorials and guides on how to do things simply and in the most cost effective way - so it’s ideal if you’re on a tight budget! Why not give these things a whirl: curtain drapes, cushions, hand painted drawers, wall displays and wooden photo frames, handmade tables and even sewing your own bedding!

BEDROOM

  1. UNDERBED STORAGE: The ideal place to store your spare blankets and fluffy slippers! Under-bed storage is great for sliding in and out from under your bed; a space that is very often overlooked as something that can be utilized. Having a couple of large fitted boxes or drawers underneath will allow you to keep all your treasures safe and dust free while you’re not using them. This reclaimed wood drawer keeps to the theme of sustainability – interior design with a conscience!
  1. ORGANIZED WARDROBES: Who doesn’t dream of owning a wardrobe that's immaculate? Color coordinated and organized down to every bootie, having a clear and precise space in your wardrobe really will create the illusion of so much space – and keep your room tidy! Often you’ll find that when items have a special place, it’s hard to not put them back in it, thus eradicating the desire to chuck your jumpers over one shoulder onto the floor!

If you’re lucky enough to have a big freeing space in your bedroom, then opt for a built-in wardrobe with sliding mirrored doors (this double up will give you more wall/floor space if it means you don’t have to purchase a separate stand alone mirror). If your room is smaller, modify the wardrobe you have by building in extra shelves and slotting in baskets.

KITCHEN

  1. UTILIZE EXTRA CUPBOARD SPACE: One of life’s simplest yet most effective storage hacks, is adapting the space you have that generally goes unconsidered. Under the kitchen sink is where most people store their cleaning products, and with all the piping it can be a bit of a jungle in there and spray bottles get lost and lodged in strange places. Take some plastic tension rods and create hanging spaces for your bottles and cloths!

Similarly, use baskets and shelving on the inside of cupboard doors to store lightweight items such as foils, chopping boards and sponges.

  1. NO MATTER HOW SMALL THE SPACE, USE IT: Even if it’s an awkward corner or thin slice of a slot – you’ll be able to make use of it somehow. Consider those thinner items that you can get into smaller spaces; mops, brooms, brushes, spices, utensils etc. Spice racks are a brilliant way to separate your Rosemary from your Thyme while narrowing the slimmest of spaces!
  1. USE BOTH SIDES OF SHELVES: Put your pretties on top and hang your utensils from the bottom! Grab some nails, baskets, rails and hooks and design your own under-shelf storage!

BATHROOM

  1. ABOVE THE DOORS: A genius way of storing towels and toiletries is to create shelving above the door – and of course add hooks or racks onto the inside of the door too!
  1. SNEAK IN SHELVING: Add it in even in areas you wouldn’t have considered needing before! Put a little shelf above your toilet roll to keep sprays or scented candles, slot shelving in behind your toilet lid for ornaments, use multiple shelving next to your mirrors for your toiletries and beauty products etc. Not only will it clear your cupboards but you can create lovely displays on them too!
  1. MASON JARS: Mason JarsDIY hacks are multipurpose. The many uses and looks these easy to get pieces can bring to your home seem endless. One of my favorite uses of them is to store beauty products! Brushes, cotton wool, liners, q-tips and bottles etc. – take inspiration from this DIY trick of attaching the lovely jars onto a plaque of wood to create shelving units designed by you!

LIVING AREA

  1. USE UNEXPECTED SPACES: Using your stairwell to feature hidden shelving is a great and unpredictable way to gain extra display space. Ideal for housing your library of books, the small shelving you can fit behind and under your staircase will amaze guests! Take it a step further by adding in a couple of squishy seats and pillows to create a little reading nook for your leisure!
  1. TIDY SECRETS: To keep everything looking clean, tidy and organized, create secret cupboards and drawers to give the illusion that you live in a minimalist space – when really, all your belongings are safely tucked away behind hidden doors! This works especially well for your TV unit where it’ll help hide all your wires, remotes and DVDs.
